During the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Alonso called up Pitarch to train with the first team and awarded him playing time in the warm-up matches.
However, it was the change in manager that proved the defining moment in his career as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in both ties against the Portuguese side that set up the meeting with Manchester City.
"I have dreamed of this each night when sleeping, the very first time I started playing football, every day you go to train and each day you have a game," stated Pitarch following his first appearance.
"I have just fulfilled my ambition with the greatest club in the world and in the top tournament."
Given a first start in La Liga against his former club - where he was for four years after arriving from Atletico in 2018 - he has kept his place for the following four as injuries to Jude Bellingham and Dani Ceballos provided an opening.
Pitarch has taken it with performances that have belied his age and inexperience.
"He is a extremely fast footballer, and you can observe his capabilities," said the coach. "He's incredibly energetic, with great endurance, work-rate and movement."
Pitarch's mentality has also impressed his manager.

"I realize people are surprised to watch him start in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had total trust in him to perform his normal game.
"He will keep receiving chances with the first team. It's a pleasure to have a talent like him."
