Ways the Denver Broncos and the 'play-dough' QB can stop that Chiefs' reign.

NFL 2025 season: Week six

Live coverage includes text commentary of the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, radio commentary can be heard through select stations for a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).

It's week six of the football calendar , following recent talk about two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their unbeaten records.

Striking during those contests were the number of penalties each conceded. The Eagles did so at crucial times so they essentially beat themselves after leading by two touchdowns entering the final quarter versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this weekend.

However it was positive to see how Denver quarterback the rookie was able to overcome the shortfall before lead three successful possessions on three possessions during the final period, to win the game 21-17.

The Broncos have the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They are number one in goal-line defense, whereas the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and Denver won that battle.

They had the Eagles' number in terms of disguised blitzes. They weren't always rushing extra pass rushers instead they could position two LBs in the 'A' gap before withdrawing them and send a slot defender from the outside.

At the start of the season, we said on a program that the Broncos could be this season's dark horses. They finished the previous year well and did a good job of building upon that.

Are the Denver Broncos this year's dark horses?

Recently acquired TE their tight end has stepped up big and recent RB their rusher is a guy they believe in. He now ranks fifth in the NFL for rushing yards (over 400) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).

It's impressive that head coach Sean Payton displays "RUSH!" prominently on his call sheet.

This demonstrates that Denver are a squad aiming to run first, since one can achieve much based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush while keeps you in favourable down and distances.

It's also benefited quarterback Bo Nix, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – second only to Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 back in 2020).

Other elite QBs possess powerful arms to pass all over, but they lack in the same way that Nix has. He boasts exceptional arm talent, which is different, plus he is so athletic.

His assets include his movement, being able to throw on the run, as well as using different arm angles to make the pass as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws over the middle or over the corner.

For a young quarterback, at 25, he's got great poise under pressure and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He aims to evade a sack whenever possible and is able throw in tight spots. He has sharp intelligence and is very decisive.

If you consistently run the ball it consumes time and forces the opponent to stay on the field extended periods, and when you've got a mobile QB the defense must cover the area vertically side to side. This proves draining.

The quarterback has pushed back at Payton on the sideline at times and I think the coach likes that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. In my view it's fun for him to have a rookie QB that is similar to play-dough. He can truly develop him the way he desires to build it. I think it's a special experience for the coach.

Payton owns a Super Bowl and now passed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen everything. In my opinion the achievements the Broncos are having on offence is mostly due to his guidance, his schemes, his game sense – and the combination with the QB helps make him into who he is.

You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and build confidence.

I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to face a top squad at full strength? Since that was not a Super Bowl performance from Philadelphia in their last game.

Currently, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're working better than most, that's a solid position to hold their division. The key to do to continue this trajectory.

They excel at embracing their forte, that is running the ball, and this is exactly what they must do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.

New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad without a win a game.

Since the league began tracking takeaways decades ago, the Jets are also the first team to go without a single takeaway through five games, which is surprising when you think that the head coach Aaron Glenn a defensive coach with another team.

Patrick Mahomes stated Kansas City are off to a poor start after a recent loss by the Jaguars.

Following this Sunday's game, Denver face a manageable slate until their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Looking at their division, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the division.

It depends on which form of the Chiefs they meet since Denver {beat|def
