The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
