The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it individually is difficult. Impossible.”
