The January transfer market is typically a time of intense rumour and possible big-money moves. Several prominent stars are being connected to moves out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the top figures who are poised to be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a significant move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a sizeable release clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his signature. Other suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other targets, leaving clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late move.

Marc Guéhi

This English defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Liverpool falling through. With his contract due to run out in the summer, this represents the club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, such as City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has found first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Despite being the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has started just a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the right price, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal midfielder might be poised for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible bargain. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to take a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça under new manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure seems highly probable. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his fading hopes of making the national World Cup. However, arranging a transfer poses major hurdles. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético. Having limited starts in Spain this season, he may be eager to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been heavily linked, and a move back to Crystal Palace, a club he shone on a temporary deal, remains a option, though financial demands might be a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Despite starring and winning player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, this talented player has found it tough for game time on loan at Aston Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a season, a move back to his parent club before next season appears to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkey attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this term. With his current deal running down, a host of Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a battle to retain one of Europe's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is widely expected to complete a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
