Fans Urge Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the actress are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to be present on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more message on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part version of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, securing several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
