Approximately twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, bringing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing power throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the widespread outages.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, nearly 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced power outages after the capital city experienced its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations received 598 requests for assistance across the region, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• The Werribee area - experienced significant storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing - various emergency calls
• Wyndham region - over 175 emergency requests

During the peak on yesterday, more than 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was predicted as the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk predicted across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.
