Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
