Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
