The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
