A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
